Safety Concerns

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In recent weeks, large groups of students have gathered in Center City and at transportation hubs after school leading to several incidents of violence and disorderly conduct. To ensure your child’s safety and the safety of others, The School District of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Police Department and SEPTA Police encourage you to discuss the danger of aimlessly loitering in large groups with no purpose.

While the numbers of youth involved in disorderly and criminal activity make up only a small percentage of our students, it is creating a negative portrayal of all teenagers in the city. Several students have been arrested for disorderly conduct and other students have been physically hurt.

District policy requires students to conduct themselves politely and respectfully when traveling to and from school and while using district provided transportation. Please be aware if your child’s conduct, while using a transportation pass, is determined to be disorderly it will result in your child losing their SEPTA transportation pass privileges. If this occurs parents must provide for their child’s transportation to and from school. Students who lose their transportation passes will be expected to attend school each day and arrive on time. The Code of Student Conduct applies to all students while traveling to and from school and on all modes of public transportation, as well. Students who violate the Code may receive additional disciplinary consequences.

We ask that you stress to children the importance of representing themselves and the school community in the most positive light at all times. We urge students to avoid unsafe activity.

As the weather gets warmer, police will be more visible in Center City and throughout the city to ensure the safety of students and others. We want residents and visitors to see the best in our students at all times, both on and off school property. Please help us ensure this happens.

Dear Friend of the Academy at Palumbo High School:

It is with pleasure that we announce that the Home & School Association of the Academy at Palumbo high school will be hosting its 5th Annual Rooftop Celebration on Friday June 2, 2017 at 3:00 pm at 1100 Catharine Streets -‘Meet us on the Rooftop’.

The members of the Home & School Association for the Academy at Palumbo share in a common vision; we are committed to making the school an academic, cultural, social, and athletic “jewel” that will be an ongoing source of pride to students, parents, the community, and the School District of Philadelphia. It is our responsibility to help realize this dream.

We would love to have your support for our event this year. Your donation will allow us to honor our vision/mission to host social activities that support the families of our more than 900 students. We believe that strong businesses create stronger communities and stronger communities build better schools and your donation will help us in this effort.

Attached please find the contribution form that will allow you to provide a description of your donated item. The Academy at Palumbo Class of 2017

Dear 12th grade parents and guardians,

We are moving ever closer to your child’s graduation activities! This letter serves as an update on the important events that senior families should be aware of as Spring approaches.

Wednesday, February 1: Cap and Gown Assembly. There will be an assembly at 8am for seniors to provide their sizes and other information pertinent to caps and gowns.
Friday, February 17: All senior dues should be paid by this date. Senior dues are $200 in total.

End of Year Senior Activities:

Thursday, May 25th: Senior Prom at Drexelbrook. Cost of prom tickets not included in dues.
Wednesday, May 31st: Senior Class Trip to Pocono Valley Resort. Cost of this trip is not included in dues.
Thursday, June 8th: Senior Breakfast on the Spirit of Philadelphia. Cost of breakfast is included in dues.
Wednesday, June 14th: Senior Picnic at Brandywine Picnic Park. Cost of picnic is included in dues.
Friday, June 16th: Mandatory Graduation Dress Rehearsal at Irvine Auditorium. Time TBD.
Monday, June 19th: Graduation at Irvine Auditorium. 10am.

In addition, all Scholarchip fees that have been accrued since freshman year must be paid in full before Friday, June 9th. Students may consult with the dean’s office to determine if and how much they owe in these fees.
